MakeMKV Plugin – On Hold

May 12, 2010 | Video | 7 Comments

So it’s with regret that I have to inform everyone that for the time being there will be no more updates to the MakeMKV / Plex plug-in. That is how it’ll be for at least now. There are just too many bugs trying to get Plex to even stream a MakeMKV stream and other possible bugs with MakeMKV since it is in beta still. I’ll keep investigating this in the future to see if I can get it working. But for now, This plug-in is now on hold.

Hi, please do not stop working on the Plug in it WORKS great. Here is the trick i am using a MacBook running Snow Leopard and an external Blu Ray player. The steps to run this thing properly are:

1-Insert Blu Ray disc AND INSERT A DVD INTO THE NORMAL MAC SUPERDRIVE
2-Open Make MKV and open the BLU RAY disc
3-Then open Plex (with the plug in installed)
4-Navigate to Plug In where you will be asked to chose either the Blu Ray or the DVD, chose the Blu Ray
5-After a bit you will see the video files in the stream folder with the duration (the longest is the movie)
6-Chose the title and play the TS version

So here we go, in most cases it will work, in some region locked discs i had trouble with the sound since it usually lets you play only one audio track, but we are almost there.

Thanks and keep the Plugin alive for the love of all Holy.

I don’t really use plex anymore. My system requires a crystalhd to play back high-def content. As such only xbmc supports it in osx at this time. Maybe once plex includes support I’ll consider switching back. If you want to change the source code to make it work better with your needs then by all means go ahead.

Happy to say that the latest MakeMKV Beta 1.6.5 works very well in Plex. The procedure to play BD is quite simple:
    -Pop in a BD.
-Open MakeMKV video plugin and wait for the program to finish doing its thing.
-It (plugin) will then ask for which transport stream to play. Select ts instead of m2ts (a little counter-intuitive).
-There will be several titles displayed along with their time duration; select one that is likely the length of the movie. There is no way to know, on some disc, that display various titles with same lengths which title is a suitable one. This might be the encryption fool factor. Just try one.
-The plugin will start streaming in a few seconds.

I tested this on 6 different discs and encountered no hiccup.
    Good luck to everyone!
